A week’s Ski Holiday in Zermatt and Verbier

Having worked in the ski industry since 2004, I’ve seen a lot of resorts. In fact, until last week there were only 2 major resorts in our programme that I had never visited. I won’t tell you which one I’m still to experience, but Zermatt has now been ticked off the to-do list. The only question I was asking myself is why has it taken me until the age of 30 to get out there?

Les Portes du Soleil, Val d’Isere, Verbier and a lot of motorway!

Working for a ski company means that familiarisation trips out to resort and the chalets are part and parcel of the job. Perk yes, but absolutely necessary! It is essential for us to know as much as we possibly can about each chalet we sell, to avoid any kind of disappointment once clients reach resort. This time round, James and I jetted off to, well, everywhere. Val d’Isere, followed by Verbier (I wouldn’t recommend that trip, it’s a long way, especially on a hangover!), followed by Les Gets, Morzine and finally Avoriaz. We saw loads of chalets and thought we would share our honest opinions.

Skiing in Verbier, a trip to remember!

Having recently returned from a trip to Verbier I thought I’d share my sample sized experience with the rest of the ski community.

Well firstly I have to say Verbier has been on my wish list for a very long time so when the opportunity arose to stay with a luxury operator in Verbier my neurons were buzzing with excitement. Read More »

European Ski Resort Opening Dates 2009-10

Remember, remember, the 5th of December. So Tignes and Val d’Isere have opened their lifts, Saas Fee and Zermatt never shut theirs and snow is falling everywhere. Saturday sees the biggest date of the season so far and it looks like the weather has read the script. Most of the major resorts are going to be fully up and running this weekend, including the Three Valleys, Chamonix and surrounds, Nendaz in Switzerland and Lech in Austria.

Espace Killy: 3 days and counting!

Here we are, another year has passed and another ski season is about to kick off. Forget all those excited blogs and tweets in October about new snow in Europe and a few resorts in the States opening early, we’re now getting ready for the real snow. The first guests for UK tour operators will be arriving in Tignes and Val d’Isere on Saturday, that’s the 28th November, which is the official opening date for the Espace Killy.

Weekending by Rail

So as we’ve already established, I’m a convert to the train. Having always hated flying, my first attempt to get out to the Alps by rail went so well that I vowed never again to fly where the train was possible. Imagine my thought process when I got invited out for a few days in Verbier at the beginning of last season. Never one to pass up the kind offer of staying in a 4 star chalet without paying, I gladly accepted and then set about working out how to get to resort. The brief was simple; arrive in Verbier on Thursday evening and everything is organised right up until you leave on Sunday morning. The thought racing through my head was can I organise train times in order not to take too much time out of the office, but also to make very most of the whole weekend in resort? Read More »
