Industrial action on both sides of the Channel

We are aware that there is an air traffic control strike currently taking place in France which began yesterday (23rd February) and is scheduled to finish on Saturday 27th February. At this moment we have received no information from any of our tour operators or airlines about how this action may affect any holidays due to depart on Saturday or Sunday.

We are also aware that British Airways staff may strike at some stage over the Easter break. As yet we have received no notification of the dates on which such action is likely to take place and how this action may affect our customers.

At the moment we would like to reassure all customers that any information we receive from tour operators and airlines will be passed to you as soon as we receive it. We would advise that you do not make any alternative travel arrangements unless you are advised that any action is likely to affect your holiday. Unless otherwise advised, please proceed to your departure airport and check in as normal.

Alpe d’Huez and Les 2 Alpes – Skiing Affordability Realised!

On hearing my first ski trip of the season would be to Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes my feelings were mixed. On the one hand it meant seeing two resorts and a whole range of chalets that I did not know much about, on the other hand, would they live up to the demanding standards set by the Three Valleys and Espace Killy regions?

Luxury ski holiday in St Anton

Working at the sales end of the ski industry, you always come across chalets that make you think “I wish I could stay there”, so when the opportunity arose for several friends and I to stay in one such chalet, we naturally grabbed it with both hands. Chalet Seeberger has long been on my hit list for several reasons:

  1. The chalet is as central as you could possibly want.
  2. The catering is of a very high standard.
  3. The wines served would be good enough to grace a quality restaurant.

Skiing in La Rosière: A Hidden Gem

One of the lesser known resorts of the Tarentaise region, La Rosière truly is a gem waiting to be discovered. Some people are too quick to dismiss this resort as too small, too quiet and too family orientated but three colleagues from the London office and I spent the opening weekend of the season discovering what this resort really has to offer.

Les Portes du Soleil, Val d’Isere, Verbier and a lot of motorway!

Working for a ski company means that familiarisation trips out to resort and the chalets are part and parcel of the job. Perk yes, but absolutely necessary! It is essential for us to know as much as we possibly can about each chalet we sell, to avoid any kind of disappointment once clients reach resort. This time round, James and I jetted off to, well, everywhere. Val d’Isere, followed by Verbier (I wouldn’t recommend that trip, it’s a long way, especially on a hangover!), followed by Les Gets, Morzine and finally Avoriaz. We saw loads of chalets and thought we would share our honest opinions.

Powder skiing in Val d’Isere

Looking for a last minute deal can be risky business because there comes a point when prices don’t go any lower and holidays just get sold. If like our group you were dead set on going to a specific resort then having not got anything sorted by Thursday for a holiday intended to start on Saturday is perhaps a little foolish. We were all pretty worried on Thursday morning because prices stayed where they were and it was looking like the group was going to split with my friend Oli and his brother Guy heading to a different resort. Magically it all came together in the afternoon after I spotted a ridiculous deal staying in the chalet Hotel Gelinotte in Val d’Isere.

The view that greeted us looking down into the Chardonet bowl - mind blowing!

The view that greeted me looking down the couloir on 21st January

Skiing in Verbier, a trip to remember!

Having recently returned from a trip to Verbier I thought I’d share my sample sized experience with the rest of the ski community.

Well firstly I have to say Verbier has been on my wish list for a very long time so when the opportunity arose to stay with a luxury operator in Verbier my neurons were buzzing with excitement. Read More »
